Day 3: Maybe I’ve set my goals a bit high, but darn it now I’ve got my fiancé doing this too and I’m determined to not let him beat me at these darn games. The man has some unnaturally and almost demi-godly balance. And me? Well…I’ve got…determination.

I spent almost 35 minutes of Wii Fit time just trying to top all of his scores to the point where he can’t surpass me anytime soon. Wii Fit actually encourages you to “workout” with friends and family. Maybe because they know that competition is the best motivator in the world. The thing actually has a high score board, even for yoga. Who gets a high score in deep breathing? Well apparently my fiancé and I can’t seem to beat it. Darn.

Day 4: Today was a busy day and then I decided to go to the movies. I was in a rush to get home so that I could get in at least a little Wii Fit time. The in-game fitness trainer tells you to not push it. But after two days of not playing, my fiancé got chastised for being too busy to workout. Well that won’t be me! I managed to squeeze in about 15 minutes before midnight. It’s my first day of less than 30 minutes and I feel kind of bad about it.

But a little bit of rest is ok. I did actually have a slight drop in my BMI. Being able to see a graph of how you’re doing is a nice motivator, but I can see the opposite too. The cute little Wii Board avatar tells you not to get discouraged. Fitness doesn’t happen overnight and even a little exercise during the day is better than none at all. Tomorrow won’t be so busy and I can try for 30 minutes again. I’ve already unlocked tons of new things including a Rhythm Boxing game and Super Hula Hoop. I know. I rock.

Day 5: I manage to get in my 35 minutes and open up lots of new games and exercises. The growing number of activities is great and offers lots of options, but there are some favorites that I tend to do all the time. I really enjoy the yoga poses and new ones are always great. You’ll find familiar ones like Downward Facing Dog and Sun Salutation and doing them in conjunction with the Wii Balance Board does provide some interesting new challenges for what you thought you knew about Yoga and balance.

Every new activity seems to be slightly harder if not exponentially harder depending on your strengths and weaknesses. For me, push-ups is a dreaded thing I hiss at, but that’s what I did today. I failed miserably and had the trainer complaining at me. Plus I got the infamous “couch potato” label. We’re gonna have a love/hate relationship from now on.

Day 6: Yesterday I decided to start working out with a slimming belt in conjunction with the board so I could sweat more. Oh boy, did I ever. I’m using it again today and trying out some of the exercises I’ve been avoiding. I was in for a surprise when I tried an old favorite and the male trainer popped up to “fill in” for my normal female trainer. I must say it threw me off. I think I felt a little violated because for some reason I’ve developed an affinity for the female trainer, but it was a nice change.

You can change trainers whenever you want before the exercise, but having Wii Fit do it for you makes you wonder what else it’s going to decide for you. I got my 30 minutes in and managed to sweat tons. Wii Fit prompts you to take a break after so long and reminds you to drink water as well. The fact that I’m still playing really impresses me. For the first time since I started these workouts I had perfectly balanced weight on both legs. Incredible! Even the Wii Balance Board said so.
