THQ to Develop Marvel Super Hero Squad

THQ continues its tradition of kid-friendly offerings by picking up the Marvel Super Hero Squad license.

Awww.. look at the wittle big-headed Spider-Man! The small-bodied, large-headed versions of famous Marvel heroes have become huge collectibles. THQ is jumping on the bandwagon by sewing up the license for a Marvel Super Hero Squad game.

It's a partnership that seems to make sense for both companies. THQ has been working with kid-friendly properties like Nickelodeon for several years now. Marvel is of course looking to grow the next generation of comic book fans. They're poised to make a move with the Squad line of toys, which are slated to get a TV show sometime in 2009. Marvel's planning a comic book as well.

Licensed games, even bad ones, tend to sell as evidenced by the early numbers on Sega's Iron Man game. It's reviewed poorly but so far is selling and renting well, even moving ahead of GTA IV on Gamefly's rental charts. This will likely be a profitable move for THQ and Marvel.
