I Missed E3?

What Nintendo fans were left with are release dates for Brawl, Galaxy, and a new accessory called the Balance Board. Words can not simply express the complete and utter disappointment of another E3 year going by seeing the same games Nintendo has been dangling out there since before the Wii was announced. Nintendo is really going to be lost next year when they won’t have Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3 to talk about.

Sony on the other hand had the opposite problem. Last year they bombed at E3 so this year, like the sales of the PS3, there is only one way to go, and that’s up. So they showed off their big three: Killzone 2, a playable demo of Heavenly Sword, and LittleBigPlanet. While Sony didn’t spend time on sale figures and industry trends, maybe because they couldn’t spin the numbers enough in their favor, they did announce lots of games and that’s exactly what they needed at E3. Of course of the biggest three games they showed most people talked about how the visuals for Killzone 2 are “almost” as good as what was shown and promised at E3 way back in 2005, and how Heavenly Sword is a little deeper than God of War (but not much).

Even though Sony focused more on games this time it fell into the same trap Nintendo did. They didn’t give us any reason to have long term hope for the PS3. Sure the rest of the year looks more promising than ever but there just wasn’t any kind of huge announcement to get hardcore gamers excited. The least Sony should have given is some kind of news on why people need to put down over 500 bucks to play video games on their system instead of the Xbox 360. In fact the one thing that Sony did prove is that it is still an expert on tarnishing its own brand, more than any other competitor could dream of, when it announced that the 100 dollar price drop is only temporary until an 80 GB version is released.
